Texas Gov to sign abortion bill at Christian Academy
From the NYTimes:Gov. Rick Perry plans to visit a Christian school on Sunday to sign abortion legislation that drew strong backing from conservative religious groups and, while there, to talk in support of a proposed state constitutional amendment that would forbid gay marriage.
"The two issues talk about values," he said. "A church is an appropriate place to come together and celebrate a victory for the values of the people of Texas."
His spokesperson Robert Black said of the choice of location for the signing:
"No one seemed to protest the governor signing a bill at a business or a hospital," Mr. Black said. "It's not a political event. It's a bill-signing."
It is heinous and inappropriate the way that politicians are courting 'values voters' and bastardizing Christianity and the church in order to do so. The church is not an appropriate place to celebrate a legislative or political victory; the church is the place that we come together to celebrate the victory of Jesus Christ. A business or hospital is an appropriate place to have a bill signing if the bill concerns either institution, both of which are regulated by the government.
The 04 victory has brought in its wake a vicious tide of politicians representing 51% of America. Partisanship is the buzz word every time anyone, be it Democrat, Libertarian or Christian disagrees with what the conservative agenda is advocating. I can't wait for the day when my Christian brothers and sisters will wake up and see how we are being prostituted and bastardized.
